Tuesday 7th October

Slept badly again, although not as bad as the previous night.  Rained heavily in the night and Suki started scrabbling at doors - I got up and let her out but she rushed back in, so I shut her in the bedroom with me and left the doors to the wardrobe open and then ignored her.  She didn't do it again so I got off lightly.  Got up at 7.30 full of energy.  Had shower and then put towels etc in to wash and short dry.  Had breakfast and did washing up.  Then did ironing.  Then hoovered bedroom and quickly round the other rooms.  Jayne went off to Glastonbury at 9.45.  I hung out towels and other washing, locked the windows, packed the car and left.  Went for a walk on the moor and then dropped in to see Mary.  Set off for London at 12.15, getting petrol in Bovey Straights on the way.  Got a sausage roll and some small doughnuts to eat on the way - but still ended up yawning and eating fruit pastilles.  Good journey until A404 junction then satnav and overhead gantries warned of long (40 min) delays so went off to the M40.  Lots of other people doing the same thing so lots of queues before I got to the M40 - not sure if I gained anything but at least I kept moving (just).  Got home at 4 and made a cup of tea.  Took Suki for a quick walk round Wendell.  Had Linda Mcartney veggie burgers for supper, with veg stir fry and microwave chips.  Burgers were like cardboard.  Went separately to choir practice so that I didn't have to go to the pub.  Came home and had hot drink and scotch and watched Wycliffe, although fell asleep before the end.

What a gorgeous summer we had - the heatwave seemed to go on for ever and I spent many a happy hour sitting in the garden - as did Suki! As expected, Mary (Mike’s mum) passed away on 13th December last year - nearly 5 weeks after she first took to her bed and stopped eating.  Everyone at Tracey House was so good with her, caring for her and keeping her comfortable. They also took care of everything at the end which was very helpful. We were fortunate to be able to have the funeral before Christmas so it wasn’t hanging over until the new year. Mary had written down her wishes for hymns and readings and even a potted history for the eulogy! It was very easy to organise, even from a distance. Saturday 1 February

Mike went off ringing QPs and I went to Denham to do 7-mile Colne Valley circular walk I had stumbled across when researching New Year's Day canal walk.  Walking by 9.10.  Took me four and a half hours because went slightly wrong in the woods and then decided to research possible short cut for future, and also because unable to get under railway bridge at Ickenham due to floods so had to do long detour.  Lovely morning - clear and sunny and not too cold although the wind was somewhat chill.  Underfoot was extremely muddy and often deep in water - luckily boots were up to it.  Had blisters under both feet by the end.  Also found I had burrs sticking to my ear muffs - but only after I had been talking to people whilst completely unaware of this. Got home and changed bedding and did washing.  Then had lovely hot shower and got into comfies for the evening.  Did cross stitch and watched England being beaten by France at Rugby in the last few minutes.  Had pate from Son Ferrer market fo

Roving Ringers Reunion Weekend 21-22 Feb

Lee and Emma picked up Suki on Friday afternoon - which left us clear on Saturday to just get up and go.  We were going to listen to the Everest book on the way up to Huntingdon - but we couldn't get the phone audio to work through the bluetooth on the car, even though the phone was shown as paired.  So we listened to an interesting programme on the Bach Magnificat instead.  We set off a bit late but got to the first tower at Godmanchester about 10.20 am and Hal immediately came down and carried Mike up.  I tried to ring there but they were too heavy for me and the ropes were new and springy so I didn't carry on.  The next tower was St Ives - which was a ground floor ring with an awful lot of rope, so I didn't ring there but stayed around in the body of the church chatting.  I walked back to the town before the session finished and had a happy time browsing round the shops and farmers marker.  I got myself some nail varnish - another first shock horror!!  At the market I bo
