Thursday

Woke early so got up and had shower etc and put recycling out. Very windy with intermittent showers.  Went for bracing walk on moor with jayne and suki.  Did the contour round from snall road car park and back along tramway route.  Then went for coffee at parke.  Had latte and cheese scone.  It started to rain but we sat there stoically!  Got back and I packed my bag and drove home.  Reasonably good journey.  Caught up with 2 weeks of archers.  Got home at 4 and took suki out for walk in Southfields.  Then set about setting up new television.  Got filthy from the dust taking old stuff down.  Previous TV fell off the bed whilst I was struggling with the big heavy stand and cables etc.  Was hoping to take it to Devon to replace dodgy one down there but possibly it will now be broken.  Spent some time trying to find a table that would be solid enough but eventually had configuration with which I was pleased - at least for the time being.  A proper unit would be nice though.  Very pleased with TV.  Left setting up internet and DVD player/recorder to another day as need to access router permissions.  Nothing much on to watch though!  Able to push bed nearer to the fireplace by about 6 inches giving a bigger space in the middle of the room and at last getting the benefit of a narrower bed in the room.  Lorraine came in about 9 and we had a nice thai curry together which she had made, with a glass of wine, and then banana cake and custard, and a good long catch up chat.  Went to bed at 11.

What a gorgeous summer we had - the heatwave seemed to go on for ever and I spent many a happy hour sitting in the garden - as did Suki! As expected, Mary (Mike’s mum) passed away on 13th December last year - nearly 5 weeks after she first took to her bed and stopped eating.  Everyone at Tracey House was so good with her, caring for her and keeping her comfortable. They also took care of everything at the end which was very helpful. We were fortunate to be able to have the funeral before Christmas so it wasn’t hanging over until the new year. Mary had written down her wishes for hymns and readings and even a potted history for the eulogy! It was very easy to organise, even from a distance. She was well known at the church and there was a good attendance - I was particularly glad that her 90-year old friend, who had been her bridesmaid, was ab

Saturday 1 February

Mike went off ringing QPs and I went to Denham to do 7-mile Colne Valley circular walk I had stumbled across when researching New Year's Day canal walk.  Walking by 9.10.  Took me four and a half hours because went slightly wrong in the woods and then decided to research possible short cut for future, and also because unable to get under railway bridge at Ickenham due to floods so had to do long detour.  Lovely morning - clear and sunny and not too cold although the wind was somewhat chill.  Underfoot was extremely muddy and often deep in water - luckily boots were up to it.  Had blisters under both feet by the end.  Also found I had burrs sticking to my ear muffs - but only after I had been talking to people whilst completely unaware of this. Got home and changed bedding and did washing.  Then had lovely hot shower and got into comfies for the evening.  Did cross stitch and watched England being beaten by France at Rugby in the last few minutes.  Had pate from Son Ferrer market fo

Roving Ringers Reunion Weekend 21-22 Feb

Lee and Emma picked up Suki on Friday afternoon - which left us clear on Saturday to just get up and go.  We were going to listen to the Everest book on the way up to Huntingdon - but we couldn't get the phone audio to work through the bluetooth on the car, even though the phone was shown as paired.  So we listened to an interesting programme on the Bach Magnificat instead.  We set off a bit late but got to the first tower at Godmanchester about 10.20 am and Hal immediately came down and carried Mike up.  I tried to ring there but they were too heavy for me and the ropes were new and springy so I didn't carry on.  The next tower was St Ives - which was a ground floor ring with an awful lot of rope, so I didn't ring there but stayed around in the body of the church chatting.  I walked back to the town before the session finished and had a happy time browsing round the shops and farmers marker.  I got myself some nail varnish - another first shock horror!!  At the market I bo
